Building Infrastructure

The National Standards for Gift Planning Success specify that a nonprofit organization should have "clear policies to manage risk and ensure accountability to donors and the nonprofit and the public" (NSGPS 4). If your policies are outdated or inadequate, we can help.

Gift Acceptance Policies and Procedures

Project duration: about 4 weeks

We review all policies and procedures related to planned giving to make sure you’re ready to consider all the assets donors may use to fund their gifts. If you don’t want to directly accept complex assets like real estate, business interests or cryptocurrency, we recommend third parties that can take on that responsibility for you. We also review your policy on restricted gifts to guide fundraisers in their gift discussions.

We can also review and/or help you to draft:

  • Naming rights policy
  • Gift agreements for individual donors
  • Board governance policies and structures
  • Endowment policies can be included in a general policy assessment or done as a separate project.

Case study

After years of growth and great work, our client--a founder-led animal welfare organization--was ready develop governance policies for long term stability and growth. We developed a framework for board best practices to meet this objective. We also developed philanthropy policies and procedures to set the stage for philanthropy and endowment growth.

Endowment Policies and Procedures
